Your Smockingbird pretties can work all year long with a few key layering pieces, so we wanted to share some of our favorites. These six staples will winterize your closet and have you ready for fall in no time!
1. Layering tees. Wear layering tees under sleeveless styles to keep you warm AND fashionable. Adorable Essentials has some fantastic styles at reasonable prices (and in tons of colors). I like the 3/4" ruffled sleeve tee (pictured), the 3/4 bubble tee, and the long sleeve with a ruffle at the wrist. I was seriously impressed with the quality! Just make sure to check their measurements as they run on the smaller side, and all sales are final.
2. Chambray capris. Trade your ruffled shorties for ruffled chambray capris (or pants) as the weather cools down. They seriously match everything! We are working on some Smockingbird ones for fall, stay tuned.
3. Leggings. Tarjay has some great jeggings for about $6. They look amazing with peasant tops and cowboy boots. Tarjay always has a few other basic leggings, and we picked up some black sparkle jeggings and basic grey ones. JCrew's younger line Crewcuts had some super cute options, too! Ruffled leggings are our favorite for under dresses. I can't seem to put my hands on a photo at the moment, but they are sweet and girly. You can source seasonal ruffled leggings through Matilda Jane trunk shows -- Kristine Scott will be having one August 31st and you can join the event here. You can always find basics in most every color at Adorable Essentials.
4. Cardis. Add an ivory cardigan to a strappy tank and you're ready for fall. We like the open-front style -- it is perfect with Phoebe tunics and Ruby tops. For less than $12 you can find an ADORABLE OshKosh one at Tarjay, and they have big girl sizes, too. Crewcuts and Boden also have some great button-down cardigans to throw over a Sophie dress. They are great for days that start off cool but end up too warm for that extra layer.
5. Denim Jacket. This is a must! Turn up the sleeves and add as a final layer to make everything a little more hip. You can find denim jackets everywhere -- try Crewcuts or even Tarjay.
