Smockingbirdies take American Girl Store!

American Girl Brands We Love Fun Growing Up Smockingbird Kids Fashion Livie & Luca Shopping Smockingbird Smockingbirdies Winter

This post is completely overdue, but still worth sharing because the Smockingbirdies had the best time.  The girls received American Girl dollies from Santa a couple of years ago.  They have a pretty nice assortment of clothing and accessories at this point and seem to really enjoy them.  But the girls had never been to the AG store themselves!   So, we made it a girls day.  The Smockingbirdies brought their dollies and a pet, and we headed to AG Atlanta with appointments for hair, reservations for the bistro, and plenty of time to look and shop. The hair salon is really...

Snow Day!

Girl Time Livie & Luca Matilda Jane Pedicure Smockingbirdies Snow Day Winter

How to spend a snow day Smockingbird style?  Pretend it's warm and have a big girl date with spring clothes and pedicures! Sophie is 6 now, and it is such a great age.  Sarah Blevins at OurLittleLifeStyle talks about how age 6 tolls the sweet spot in a mother-daughter relationship, and she's so right.   Sophie is so much fun to spend time with, and especially one-on-one.   I love that she wants to "hang out," as she says. We did a quick photo shoot modeling some of Smockingbird's new collection.  The bright colors and fun dresses were a ray of sunshine on a cold day.   We also tried out Matilda Jane's...

Baby It's Cold Outside! Smockingbird Black Bean Soup

Growing Up Smockingbird Recipes Smockingbird Winter

This winter has been crazy cold!   It's been fun to experiment new soup recipes.  This black bean soup has quickly become a household favorite. It's one where you really can't go wrong by substituting or adding a little more or less of this or that depending on what's in the fridge.  We like to color and cook outside the lines here at Smockingbird.   Chop up some garlic and veggies.  I like to use carrots, celery, red/orange/yellow peppers.   Saute in saucepan with some olive oil until the garlic is aromatic. Add three cans of black beans.  I like the seasoned ones.  Mash them into the...

Ditching Black Friday for a Halo

#lovetrain #myhalo Black Friday Giving Back Our Little Life Style Positive Smockingbird Thanksgiving Winter

Black Friday has become so crazy that I'm not a big fan.  I love the hunt for a bargain and scoring great prices on amazing products.  But it's hard for me to get behind a holiday where people trample each other for DVDs, skip family time and Thanksgiving dinner to stand in line for days, and fill up their carts with excessive CRAP in the name of a sale.  I also feel it's pretty rotten when stores open on Thanksgiving to get a jump on the competition, essentially trading their employees' holiday for profit.  It's consumerism at its worst. <img src="http://static1.squarespace.com/static/52b0d0ece4b0eb7def77ac12/t/546d1770e4b08897ae0863f5/1416435571310/" /> Between my strong feelings on...

Hello Crock Pot, Good to See You (Smockingbird Chili!)

Chili Crock Pot Food Growing Up Smockingbird Recipes Smockingbird Smockingbirdies Winter

It's that time of the year...  Changing leaves, crisp air, entire lines of suede shoes, football games, layers of boots/scarves/trendy coats, festive holidays, Saturdays spent circling toys in the Sears catalog, and of course, the CROCK POT. In this house the crock pot lives in the pantry much of the year.  When fall arrives, it gets a pretty good work out for several months.  It might be the one appliance that gets used the most.  We love to fill up the crock pot in in the morning, let it simmer all day, and enjoy an easy meal at night.   And it's so much fun to have the littles help add ingredients to the...
